Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championship Page
Navy swept the 2007 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championship with the men garnering a total of 864 points and the women earning 805 points. Army men and Bucknell women were runners-up finishing with 771 points and 644 points, respectively.
Army's Zach Disbrow and Navy's Kelly Zahalka were awarded Patriot League Swimmers of the Meet. Navy swept the diving awards with Kevin Teague taking his fourth-straight Patriot League Male Diver of the Meet honor and Katie Griffin winning her first honor. Bucknell's Luke Trafton and Navy's Mallory Dietrich received Patriot League Rookie of the Meet accolades. Navy's Joe Suriano took his third Patriot League Diving Coach of the Year award, while Navy Head Coach John Morrison was named Patriot League Women's Coach of the Year. In his Patriot League rookie year, Army Head Coach Mickey Wender took Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year honors.
In the final day of competition the following events took place: men's and women's 1,650-freestyle, men's and women's 200-backstroke, men's and women's 100-freestyle, men's and women's 200-breaststroke, men's and women's 200-butterfly and men's one-meter and women's three-meter competition.
American's Meghan Thiel broke her pool record and swam a NCAA B cut in the 1,650-freestyle, finishing in 16 minutes, 45.10 seconds. Navy's Tara Chapmon (17:04.36) came in second-place followed by Lehigh's Allison Rolish (17:28.83). Bucknell's Luke Trafton, also with a pool record, won the mile race in 15 minutes, 39.68 seconds. Navy's Cody Reeb (15:54.11) and Army's Cary Cohan (16:00.73) took second and third, respectively.
In men's one-meter diving, Navy's Kevin Teague claimed the title once again, scoring 323.45 points. Army's Greg Sievers captured the runner-up spot with 298.25 points and Navy's Jonathan Galinski took third-place honors with 278.45 points.
American's Kaitlin Moughty won the women's 200-backstroke, clocking in at two minutes, 2.02 seconds. Navy's Jennie Spencer (2:03.73) and Colgate's Beverly Walker (2:04.13) finished second and third, respectively. Navy's Billy Vey (1:49.05) touched the wall .37 of a second faster than Lehigh's Tom Gilbert (1:49.42) for first-place. Army's Quentin Walsh took third place (1:52.18).
In the women's 100-freestyle, Navy's Thuy Mi Dinh captured first-place with a time of 51.10 seconds. Colgate's Ashley Bottger (51.55) and Lisa Marchi (51.59) took second and third, respectively. In a tight men's race, Army's Efri Ruthenberg touched the wall in 45.07 seconds for first place while Navy's Alex Oldenkamp (45.63) claimed second and Lehigh's Dan Johnson (45.82) grabbed third.
Navy's Mallory Dietrich won the 200-breaststroke with a NCAA B cut time of two minutes, 17.60 seconds. Lehigh's Melanie Rolish (2:18.97) and Colgate's Caitlin Curran (2:20.35) captured second and third, respectively. For the men, Army's Jake Mentele clocked in at two minutes, 1.56 seconds, good for first. The Black Knight was followed by Navy's Adam Meyer (2:03.06), who finished second and Bucknell's Joe Metcalf (2:04.81), who claimed third.
Navy's Kelly Zahalka broke her pool and Patriot League Championship meet records with her winning time of two minutes, 3.79 seconds in the 200-butterfly. Colgate's Kate Murphy was close behind coming in second-place with a time of 2:04.34 and placing third was Navy's Kalea Middendorf with her time of 2:07.46. Army's Zach Disbrow took first in the men's 200-butterfly with his time of one minute, 48.12 seconds, just shy of a NCAA B cut. Navy's Tyler Hill (1:51.20) and American's Matt Bank (1:51.60) finished second and third, respectively.
On the women's three-meter board, Navy's Katie Griffin scored 288.05 points, a pool record. Army's Lindsay Adao (260.5) earned runner-up honors and Bucknell's Rebecca Bersani (235.25) placed third.
In the women's 400-freestyle relay, Navy (Mallory Dietrich, Kelly Zahalka, Sarah Dorenkott, Thuy Mi Dinh) touched the wall .02 of a second ahead of Colgate for the win with a time of three minutes, 26.05 seconds. Colgate (Kate Murphy, Emily Murphy, Ashley Bottger, Lisa Marchi) took second with a time of 3:26.07 and Lafayette (Hilary White, Marcella Nehrbass, Liz Geary, Katie Kaczka) grabbed third, clocking in at 3:32.09. In a tight race, Army (Zach Disbrow, Will Eggers, Mike Soderberg, Efri Ruthenberg) claimed first-place in 3:00.92. Navy (Alex Oldenkamp, Preston Mihalko, Tyler Hill, Andrew Plumb) finished second in a time of three minutes, 1.21 seconds and Bucknell (John Peterman, Mark Kawczenski, Brad Bennett, Grant Steadman) came in third with a time of 3:05.93.
