Navy Men and Bucknell Women Win 2006 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championship

The Navy men and Bucknell women won the 2006 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships. The Mids won with a score of 853 to take their third-straight men's title. The Bison won with a score of 744.5 to their fourth-straight women's title.

On the men's side Army finished second with 651.5 points and Bucknell third (623). Rounding out men's scoring was Lehigh (443.5), American (385), Colgate (236), Lafayette (200) and Holy Cross (113).

On the women's side Colgate to second with 731 points and Navy third (516.5). Rounding out women's scoring was Lafayette (426.5), Army (389.5), American (279), Lehigh (242) and Holy Cross (132).

In the opening event of the night American sophomore Meghan Thiel set a new Patriot League meet record winning the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:36.58. A pair of Bucknell swimmers took second and third with sophomore Meghan Brown taking silver and fellow sophomore Brittany Neligan getting the bronze.

The opening event for the men saw Navy freshman David Guthman win the gold in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:01.11. Army sophomore David Michelson got and Bucknell senior Todd Bauer got third.

Army senior Chelsea Haviland completed the sweep in diving winning the one-meter event with a score of 291.85. Taking second was Navy sophomore Katie Griffin and coming in third was Colgate senior Emily McAuliff.

Bucknell senior Lectie Altman captured gold in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.87. Taking silver was Navy freshman Jennie Spencer, while Colgate freshman Beverly Walker got the bronze.

In the men's 200-yard backstroke American senior Val Fomenko won with a time of 1:49.96. Lehigh junior Tom Gilbert came in second and Army sophomore Quentin Walsh got third.

Colgate freshman Lisa Marchi got the win in the women's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.55. Junior Rebecca Scheffter of Bucknell got second, while Colgate senior Chrissy Zalika got third.

Navy senior Mike Linn captured the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.12. Linn's teammate Joe Smutz finished second after breaking the Patriot League record in prelims. Army junior Efri Ruthenberg came in third.
 

 

In the women's 200-yard breaststorke Colgate freshman Emily Murphy won with a time of 2:!8.41. Army freshman Erin Hanley took second and Navy junior Aubra Thomas took third.

In the men's 200-yard breaststroke Bucknell senior William Schilling captured gold with a time of 2:03.17. Army sopohomore Jake Mentele came in second and Lehigh senior Grant Flothmeier took third.

Bucknell junior Katherine Munson won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.54. Lafayette sophomore Julie Sauer took second and while teammate Kerry Nichols got third.

In the men's 200-yard butterfly Navy sophomore Tyler Hill gold with a time of 1:50.04. Army's Disbrow finished second and Bucknell senior Mark Kretzer took third.

Navy's junior Kevin Teague took home the three-meter diving title with a score of 365.40. Army's Doug Klein got second and Navy's Adam Niekras took third.

The final women's event of the championship the Colgate women won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:26.80. Navy came in second with Bucknell taking third. Swimming for the Raiders were Bottger, Zaika, Marchi, and Murphy.

The Navy won the men's final event taking the 400-yard freestyle realy in a time of 3:00.62. Army took second and Lehigh came in third. Swimming for the Mids were Linn, Oldenkamp, Mihalko, and Foschi.

The men's Swimmer of the Meet was Navy's Smutz, while diver of the week went to teammate Teague. Ouststanding Rookie of the Meet went to Navy's Guthmann. Male Coach of the Year went to Bucknell's Jerry Foley.

The women's Swimmer of the Meet was American's Thiel, while diver of the week went to Army's Haviland. Ouststanding Rookie of the Meet went to Colgate's Murphy. Female Coach of the Year went to Lafayette's Jim Daily.

The Diving Coach of the Year was Army's Jonathan Johnson.
