West Point, N.Y. - Holy Cross' Olivia Pruszko was crowned the women's pentathlon champion to open up the 2007 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday at Army's Gillis Field House. Pruszko won the event with 3,579 points and became the first Crusader to come out on top in the pentathlon since the Patriot League began holding the event in 2000. Pruszko recorded top marks in the high jump (1.65m) and 800m race (2:18.55).
Finishing in second place with 3,375 points was last year's winner of the women's pentathlon, Bucknell's Nina Reinhardt. Reinhardt came in first in the shot put (11.07m) and long jump (5.35m) events. The third-place finisher was Bucknell's Amy Mantush with 3,351 points.
Lafayette's Kristen Kalinowski came up with the other top mark in the women's pentathlon, clocking in at 9.31 in the 60m hurdles.
After four events, Army's Brandon Lewis has taken the lead in the men's heptathlon with 2,923 points. Lewis came up with top marks in all four events on Friday, including the 60m dash (7.20), long jump (7.07m), shot put (11.63m) and tied for first in the high jump (1.88m). Lewis was the winner of the men's heptathlon in 2006 with 4,848 points.
In second place in the men's heptathlon thus far is Lehigh's Edwin Schuck (2,658), while Lafayette's Kyle Clayton sits in third (2,611). Clayton tied with Lewis for the top mark in the high jump (1.88m).
The remaining events of the men's heptathlon will be contested Saturday morning, including the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m race.
