West Point, N.Y. - The Bucknell women and Army men were crowned the 2007 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Champions on Sunday at Army's Gillis Field House. The Bison women have won six-straight titles and 11 overall. The Black Knight men have won the last two championships and 12 overall.

The Army men came in first place with 154.50 points, yet only had one first-place finish on the final day of competition with John Laird taking home gold in the 60m with a time of 7.02. The Black Knights were awarded the Patriot League Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet in Brandon Lewis, who took first in the heptathlon on Saturday, and the Coach of the Year award for the Army coaching staff.

Army won the 2007 Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship title.


Navy, the men's runner-up, garnered 140.50 points. The Mids took home five gold medals on Sunday, including three individual and two relay. Both Paul Harris and Darryl Hunter set meet records in the 500m (1:03.02) and shot put (16.87), respectively. Harris broke his own record from a year ago, while Hunter was the shot put champion in 2005. Ronald Belany was also a first-place finisher, taking gold in the 60m hurdles (8.29). For the fourth year in a row the Mids took the 4x400m race with a Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship meet record time of 3:16.60. Members of the winning 4x400m relay included, William Ricks, Craig Meekins, Cameron Lindsey and Paul Harris. Navy was also victorious in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) with the team of Jefferson Sarchione, Vincent Carpentier, Benjamin Kozy and Lucas Burke running a time of 10:07.41.

With 122 points, Bucknell came in third place on the men's side, winning four gold medals and setting three meet records on Sunday. Matthew Forys, the 2007 Patriot League Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet, won the 3000m with a new meet record time of 8:13.13. Kerry Boyle set a meet record with a time of 48.36 in the 400m and came in first in the 200m race (22.22). The 2007 Patriot League Rookie of the Meet award went to Kyle Anthony, whose 15.13m leap in the triple jump set a meet record.

American took fourth place with 82 points and three first-place finishes on the last day of competition. Winning the 800m for the third-straight year with a Patriot League Championship Meet record time of 1:52.14 was Dustin Emrani. Brendan Fennell and Brian McCabe won the mile (4:06.67) and 1000m (2:27.44), respectively.

The Bucknell women accumulated 192 points for first place under the direction of Patriot League Coach of the Year Kevin Donner. Melanie Buczko took first in the pole vault for the third time in her career, also winning in 2004 and 2006, with a mark of 3.90m. Christa Sawko was the gold medal winner in the 800m (2:13.31), also taking home the top spot in this event in 2004. Erin Cranmer-Hart came in first in the mile (5:00.03) and Catherine Trentacoste won gold in the 400m (57.79).

In second place on the women's side was Navy with 139.75 points. Loni Forsythe was named Patriot League Track Athlete of the Meet for setting two meet records and coming in first in both the 60m (7.66) and 200m (24.87). Forsythe set the new meet record on Saturday in the preliminaries with a time of 7.65 in the 60m dash. The Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet award went to Kirsten Andrews who was first in the long jump and second in the pole vault. Andrews set a new meet record in the 60m hurdles in the semifinals on Saturday with a time of 8.70, but won the gold medal in that event on Sunday with a time of 8.71. Vicky Moore was tops in the 1000m (2:56.19), while Justine Whipple was first in the 3000m (9:53.92). Navy's DMR team took home gold for the second year in a row with a time of 12:18.71 by Vicky Moore, Stephanie Peskosky, Erin Demchko and Taren Burkett.

With two first-place finishes on Sunday, Army took third in the women's competition with 81 points. Angela Jenkins was victorious in the triple jump (11.81m), while the Black Knight 4x400m team of Meghan Venable-Thomas, Ebony Thomas, Heather Owney and Kateline Grant were gold medal winners with a time of 3.55.20.

The 2007 Patriot League Rookie of Meet honor went to Holy Cross' Olivia Pruszko, who won the 500m race in a time of 1:15.68 and was second in the high jump on Sunday. Pruszko also won the women's pentathlon on Friday.

The other gold medal handed out on Sunday was given to Colgate's Rita Santibanez, whose toss of 14.12m won her the shot put event.

All first-place finishers at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship are designated as earning First-Team All-Patriot League status, while all second-place finishers are named Second-Team All-Patriot League.
