Colgate's Tolli Named Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Feb. 29, 2008

Center Valley, Pa. - Colgate sophomore Lyle Tolli was voted the Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced on Friday by Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich. Tolli is the second Colgate indoor track and field student-athlete in Patriot League history to win the prestigious award, and the first since Ray Appenheimer in 1994.

Tolli, an undeclared major with a 3.70 cumulative grade-point average, is a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The sophomore from Lockport, N.Y. has never posted below a 3.67 GPA and has earned both the Dean's Award and Raider Academic Honor Roll accolades in all three of his semesters in Hamilton. Tolli was also inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, the freshman honor society.

At the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships, Tolli won individual titles in both the 1000m run and the mile, which led to his selection as Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the Meet. He earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors in both the 1000m and mile, and also anchored the Distance Medley Relay team to a second-place finish, and a Second-Team All-Patriot League selection. Tolli set a school record in the 1000m this season, and has also qualified for the IC4A Championships in both the 1000m and mile races.

To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
