Three Patriot League Baseball Student-Athletes Named to Brooks Wallace Award List

Dec. 12, 2007

Center Valley, Pa. - Army's Cole White, the 2007 Patriot League Baseball Player of the Year, Navy's Mitch Harris and Bucknell's Matthew Wilson were all named to the preseason 2008 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List.

The Wallace Award is presented to the nation's top collegiate baseball player.

In addition to earning Patriot League Player of the Year honors last season, White was also selected as a First-Team right fielder and Second-Team starting pitcher. The Midland, Texas native has been recognized at three different positions throughout the course of his career, as he also received First-Team honors at first base in 2006. He has earned All-League honors in the field and as a pitcher in each of his first three seasons, and received Patriot League Rookie of the Year recognition in 2005.

White won the Patriot League batting title with a .408 average in 2007, and also finished first or second in the League in total bases, slugging percentage, base hits, walks and on-base percentage. He placed third in doubles and fourth in stolen bases.

Harris set the Patriot League single-season mark with 119 strikeouts in 2007, one year after being named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Year. He is second on the career strikeout list with 254, and tossed one of eight no-hitters in League history in 2006. The senior from Mt. Holly, N.C. has an 18-8 record with a 1.95 earned run average and 232 strikeouts in 171 innings over the past two seasons. He is a threat with the bat as well, as he posted 10 doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 47 RBIs a year ago.

Harris was a Second-Team All-Patriot League selection as a pitcher and designated hitter in 2007, and also received Third-Team All-America honors from Baseball America. Harris was selected in the 24th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Atlanta Braves.

Wilson finished second in the Patriot League with a 1.78 ERA in 60.2 innings of work in 2007. He compiled a 4-4 record that included shutout victories over Cornell and Navy, and registered five complete games. Wilson enters his senior season with a 2.96 career ERA.

The Wallace Award will be presented in conjunction with the College Baseball Hall of Fame's annual induction festivities. The 2008 Award banquet will be held Thursday, July 3, in the United Spirit Arena on the campus of Texas Tech University.
