Georgetown Senior Brent Craft Signs with Arena Football League Team;
Former Hoya Bassuener Stands Out in Professional Debut
Georgetown University senior football player Brent Craft (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School) will continue to live the dream. Soon after he graduates from school in May, Craft will begin his professional career playing on the gridiron.
Craft has signed to play in Arena Football 2 with the Louisville Fire.
When he suits up for the Fire in May, Craft will have a familiar face throwing him the fall, as former Hoya quarterback Matt Bassuener (Port Edwards, Wis./Ft. Edward) started his pro career with the Fire recently.
Craft's story is one of hard work. The 5-11, 165-pound receiver walked on to the Georgetown team as a freshman and became one of the team's best receivers in the last four years.
During his freshman season in 2004, Craft did not see any game action, but he appeared in every game during the 2005 season. As a junior in 2006, Craft enjoyed a break-out season, starting every game and leading the team with 48 catches for 447 yards and two touchdowns. He ranked second in the Patriot League with 4.36 catches per game. As a senior in 2007, he caught 29 passes for 277 yards and one score.
Bassuener, who signed with the Fire earlier this year, made his professional debut on March 29 and helped lead his team to a 58-28 win over the Iowa Barnstormers.
The signal caller completed 13-of-20 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown while running seven times for 37 yards and two scores as he was named the game's Most Valuable Player.
