Patriot League Golfer of the Month - April
Matt Czarnecki, Holy Cross, Jr., Greenwich, Conn.

Czarnecki became the first Holy Cross golfer to win the individual Patriot League title with his one-stroke victory in April at Bucknell Golf Course. Czarnecki's score was among the top-10 lowest scores in Patriot League Championship history. He also finished third at the Lou Flumere Invitational, where the Crusaders finished third. This is Czarnecki's first Patriot League Player of the Month award.

Charlie Waddell, Bucknell
Sr., Wilmette, Ill.
Finished third at Patriot League Championship, and helped Bison to second consecutive Patriot League title. Won at Lafayette Invitational, and tied for 23rd at Navy Spring Invitational.

Keita Aoki, Bucknell
Jr., Tokyo, Japan
Tied for sixth at Patriot League Championship, and tied for 14th at Navy Spring Invitational.

Andrew Cohen, Bucknell
Fr., Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Patriot League Co-Rookie of the Year with fourth-place tie at Championship.

Ricky Hayes, Colgate
Jr., Ridgefield, Conn.
Tied for 16th at Patriot League Championship after finishing in fourth-place tie at Lafayette Invitational and 23rd-place tie at Navy Spring Invitational.

David Rahal, Lafayette
Sr., Mahwah, N.J.
Top finish was second place at Lehigh Valley Invitational. Also finished among top 25 at Lafayette Invitational (12thT), Hawk Invitational (20th) and Patriot League Championship (22ndT).

 

 

Steve Suarez, Lehigh
Fr., Springfield, N.J.
Won Lehigh Valley Invitational, followed by earning Patriot League Co-Rookie of the Year honors with fourth-place tie at Championship. Also earned 12th-place tie at Navy Spring Invitational.

Chris Renninger, Navy
Jr., Darnestown, Md.
Recorded 73.75 stroke average in two April appearances, including runner-up finish at Patriot League Championship.

NCAA Regional Announcement
On Monday, May 7, the NCAA will announce the field for the three regional sites. A year ago, both Army and Bucknell represented the Patriot League in the tournament. It marked the first time in Patriot League history that two teams were selected for post-season play.

The NCAA Regional is slated for May 17-19 at the following three venues;
East: The Golf Club of Georgia; Alpharetta, Ga.; Host: Georgia Institute of Technology
Central: Rich Harvest Farms; Sugar Grove, Ill.; Host: Northern Illinois University
West: ASU Karsten Golf Course; Tempe, Ariz.; Host: Arizona State University

Team Notebook

Army Patrick Beverly finished second in the rain-shortened New Engand Championship, where the Black Knights placed fourth. Sophomore Adam Renfroe earned a fifth-place tie at the Peacock Invitational.

Bucknell Earned second consecutive NCAA Regional appearance after winning Patriot League Championship. For first time in school history, placed three golfers among the top 10 (Charlie Waddell, Keith Aoki, Andrew Cohen).

Colgate Ricky Hayes was the top finisher for Colgate at the Patriot League Championship, and posted the Raiders' top spring finish at the Lafayette Invitational (fourth). Colgate's best spring finish was 12th at Lafayette Invitational.

Holy Cross Junior Matt Czarnecki became the initial Holy Cross golfer to win the individual Patriot League title. He also was team's top finisher in all four April tournaments, including two top-three finishes.

Lafayette Dave Rahal (73-76) tied for 20th at the Hawk Invitational hosted by Monmouth University, and guided the Leopards to a runner-up finish at the Lafayette Invitational with a second-place finish. He averaged 75.8 strokes per round during four appearances in April.

Lehigh Freshman Steve Suarez was the Patriot League Co-Rookie of the Year after tying for fourth place at the Championship. He also won the Lehigh Valley Invitational, and guided the Mountain Hawks to the team title.

Navy Chris Renninger posted the low round by a Navy player at the Patriot League Championship (one under par 69), and his 54-hole score of 213 was the 13th-owest Patriot League Championship score ever.
